Big Cedar Lodge is seeking an individual to fulfill the roll of Assistant-In-Training at Buffalo Ridge, a Tom Fazio designed 18-hole golf facility that is currently ranked in Golf Digest’s Top 10 Golf Courses in Missouri and top 100 Public Golf Courses in the United States. The Assistant-In-Training position is for individuals that are skilled and knowledgeable in golf maintenance and have interest in moving up to the Assistant Superintendent level. With 6 golf courses in the Big Cedar portfolio, this position will serve as an excellent steppingstone to Assistant Superintendent in the near future.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Helps to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly maintenance facility
  • In collaboration with the superintendent and assistants schedule and implement agronomic plan
  • Help train staff on correct procedures for all maintenance activities, as well as be involved and active with all course jobs and activities
  • Communicates all necessary information to pro shop team, mechanics, and other resort personnel as it pertains to golf maintenance operations
  • Heavily involved in the spray program and other applications on the property
  • Ensures adequate inventory of chemical and fertilizer needs
  • Assists staff and acts as a lead on project activities on the course
  • Schedules irrigation systems operation and assist in trouble shooting any irregularities

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operates primary turf equipment and heavy equipment as needed for projects
  • Always maintains a clean and safe work area environment on the course, in the maintenance building, and in all related work areas
  • Proposes improvement ideas to enhance work environment, operations, efficiency, and/or streamline work processes to the Superintendent and Assistants
  • Reports unsafe conditions and situations that warrant attention to a member of the golf course leadership team immediately or as soon as is practical
  • Attends seminars for related professional training
  • Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:

  • A certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree in turf related field preferred    
  • Knowledge of irrigation controls and computer systems
  • Ability to operate basic landscape equipment
  • Effective communication skills
  • Must be highly organized and have sound time management
  • Ability to work with accuracy and utilize effective judgment under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented work environment
  • High attention for detail

Required License(s):

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program
  • Obtain a Missouri pesticide licenses within 90 days
