GOLF COURSE HORTICULTURIST

 

Top of the Rock Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus 9 hole Par 3 golf course located above beautiful Table Rock Lake.   Top of the Rock is the only par 3 golf course to host a Senior PGA sanctioned event.  Top of the Rock is one of 5 golf courses that are located under the Big Cedar Lodge golf umbrella.    Big Cedar Golf is dedicated to providing a golf experience that will challenge all golfers and provide a picturesque experience for those who want to enjoy the beautiful landscaping and Ozark Mountains.

Position Summary:

The Horticulturist will work in collaboration with the Golf Course Superintendent to operationalize the Landscape projects on the property. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain the landscaping on the golf course to a dynamic level that is expected from our guests.

  • Be Proficient in pesticide applications and be able to document those applications according to proper standards.

  • Pruning and trimming of shrubs, small trees, perennials, annuals and vines

  • Maintaining flower borders and containers

  • Container, flower bed, and bulb planting

  • Knowledgeable in plant health and the ability to treat plants when needed

  • Fertilizing of all plant material

  • Monitoring of irrigation systems in planting beds

  • Record keeping and tracking hours and materials on job site

  • Purchasing plant material

  • Troubleshooting and problem solving

  • Installation of new plant materials on golf course 

  • Backup greens keeper in times of need

  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Candidate Profile:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Horticulture or related field.

  • Minimum of three years relevant experience in the Horticulture field.

  • Landscaping experience

  • Certified Arborist preferred

  • Knowledge of the proper methods for applying pesticides and fertilizers

  • Knowledge of annuals, perennials, ornamentals, trees, weeds, and native plants in SW Missouri

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license

  • Able to obtain Missouri noncommercial pesticide applicators license

     

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Writing- Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Basic Computer Skills - Using basic computer hardware and software (e.g., personal computers, word processing software, Internet browsers, etc.).
  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules that apply to job (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ADA, CFC, NFPA, ASI).

  • Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

  • Analytical/Critical Thinking - The ability to gather and organize information using a logical and systematic process; recognize patterns and relationships in complex data; examine data to identify implications, problems and draw appropriate conclusions; generate alternative solutions to problems; evaluate strengths, weaknesses and consequences of alternative solutions and approaches to solving problems.

  • Education and Training - Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Number Facility - The ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.

  • Originality - The ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas about products, services or situations, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.
