Staff Accountant

Classification: Regular, Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Corporate Controller

Summary

Responsible for providing general accounting support for the Company, including the preparation and examination of financial records, assisting with month-end activities, general ledger analysis and generating financial reports at the location level.

Essential Functions

  • Manages location bank accounts, including monthly reconciliation, new account set-up, and supply ordering.  Assists field staff as needed.
  • Prepares, files, and pays sales tax & lodging tax reports ensuring accuracy and timely filing.
  • Ensures sales and lodging licenses remain up to date and renewed timely.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local sales tax requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Tracks and collects weekly revenue reports from area managers.  Properly files each report weekly.  Ensures reports are received for every applicable location.
  • Assists with monthly-end and year-end close process, including preparing and reconciling general ledger accounts as assigned.
  • Assists with accounting and tracking of company's capital assets.
  • Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
  • Substantiates financial transactions by auditing documents.
  • Protects operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  • Establishes new bank accounts, merchant accounts and equipment, and business licenses for new contracts and locations.
  • Cross trains and acts as back-up for vendor invoice data entry as well as ensuring accounts payables are paid timely.
  • Provides accounting support for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assists with annual financial audit and ad-hoc audits as needed.
  • Ad-hoc accounting and organization projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Minimum of two to four years of general accounting experience.
  • Multi-state/multi unit experience is preferred. 
  • Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and GAAP.
  • NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Intermediate skills in Excel; proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite Products.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Flexibility and ability to effectively function in a changing environment with a rapidly growing company.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
